Venus:
Bailey Barrett
“What is the divine feminine energy? What does it mean to be unapologetic? The divine feminine energy is the energy and spiritual forces that surround me as a woman. It’s what defines me and makes me who I am. It’s my intuition, sensuality, creativity, community. It’s an energy that is felt throughout my entire being. This energy makes up my spirituality. It’s my zodiac. It’s all the stars, and moons, and galaxies combined into one whole being. Being a woman to me, and holding this energy, means that I represent myself as a woman, the women that surround me, and other women who surround each other. A whole combined community of women connecting as one. I am my ancestors and my matriarchs, and I represent and stand for them. With them.
Being unapologetic means that you are entirely you and that you have nothing to apologize or be sorry for. You are fully and truly your whole self, and you don’t need to be sorry for being who you are. Being unapologetic means that you have no regrets. We are shameless, bold, devoted, established, rooted, dedicated, faithful, unashamed, and wholehearted.
We are one being, we are powerful, our wounds ground us as being feminine, we grow stronger and stronger, our bodies are weapons, our reproductive system powers the world, our souls speak, we are always radiating the light born within us. We hold excellence, vulnerability, heavenliness, and intimate energy that is radiating a goddess like energy within our aura. We are the goddesses of beauty. Strong, sensual, powerful, beautiful. We are unapologetically ourselves. We are one.
I am strong, beautiful, powerful, sensual. I am the divine feminine energy.”
Personal Reflection
Aphrodite. The greek goddess of beauty. I embody this. Because beauty is so much more than the naked eye can see. Power, love, sensuality, spirituality, intuition, creativity, community. My zodiac is a big part of what it means for me to be a woman and my womanhood. My zodiac defines me, drives me, incentivizes me. There is this energy that radiates throughout my entire being. This is an intimate energy within me that radiates my goddess like aura. I am all the stars, moons, galaxies, combined into my whole being. I am my ancestors and my matriarchs. The yin and the yang. I am the goddess of beauty. I am Aphrodite. I am the Venus. I am strong, sensual, beautiful. I am the divine feminine energy.
Artist Statement
I’m interested in this ongoing idea of connection in the current moment. During these difficult times that we’ve all been going through, I’ve really been trying to find that connection with myself again, and to rekindle that reconnection. I’ve been questioning how we rekindle that connection during these difficult times? How do we find ourselves again? How do we maintain a connection with one another? How do we grow our connections within ourselves and each other? I am also very interested in this idea of full cell body movement. How do we move all of ourselves at once? How do we move our entire being? How do we activate these cells? I also have been exploring tons of different forms of activism including climate change, gun violence, the police, the government, poverty, the educational systems, unemployment, inequality, and more. I’m also really interested in the ideas of love and beauty. How does one love oneself? How do we love others? How do others love us? What is the definition of beauty?
