Silhouettes in the water:
Lanae Watson
"My body. Often fetishized by the media, yet degraded in secret.
I too appreciate my full lips,
My curves
Yet constantly being overly sexualized
I am not forced to reveal my body, yet I am asked why I continue to do so
And I’m not obligated to answer
For I expose my skin
Because I’m not willing to let just anyone in
my head
that’s the most beautiful part of my existence
The enigma that is often misunderstood by those who are not meant to understand
So I exist below,
In deep water.
Where it is calm and full of life."
Personal Reflection
Mermaids are often misunderstood.
These seemingly seductive creatures were known to lure in perverted men, just to drown them. These creatures are not monsters, but since they only appear when they want to be seen, most of their nature is assumed. This relates to women. We are allowed to show only what we want to be seen and the rest of us is often assumed. When we exist in our divine feminine energy, we are not worried about how we are viewed by others.
